Uncle Sam Project : April 2013

I'm honored to be one of the 25 artists selected to design and produce an Uncle Sam statue for the City of Troy's Downtown Business Improvement District. The Kaleel Jamison Consulting Group has asked me to produce their statue. I've been associated with them since 2000 and I am happy to produce such an important piece of art for both them and my home town. The statues will be mounted to the sidewalks throughout downtown Troy and officially presented on April's Troy Night Out. It's no secret that I shoot a lot of photos of Troy, NY. My greatest compliment is when I can make life long residents see their city in a new way. My images of the Collar City will factor significantly in my piece.

The Original Hero

I have been using GoPro cameras since 2004. It's awesome to see how far they have come since their original wrist mounted model. I still have 5 of these original Heroes in the original packaging. I have shot with GoPros under all sorts of conditions. There aren't many days I don't have one in my camera bag.

Forgotten Walls

Anyone who has ever walked in the woods in the Northeast will recognize these rocks. There are hundreds of miles of stone walls running through the woodlands of New York and New England. It is easy to imagine the hard labor required to build these lasting monuments.

As a tech-forward professional, I am always looking for new ways to push what's possible. Last night at Techapalooza 2012, I got the opportunity to do a location shoot almost entirely on iOS devices.

Techapalooza brings together software developers, technologists and designers working in the Capital Region for an evening of learning, business networking, food, fun and music. As official location photographer, I had the run of the place to shoot photos and post live to the mobile apps for Andriod and iPhone, as well as Facebook and Twitter. I have long been a proponent of mobile technology as a viable tool for the professional photographer, last night, I was able to put that belief into practice. I look forward to discovering new ways to bring photography and technology together.

I have been scouting new locations this week and found this stretch of shore [below] last night. I spent about two hours shooting the shoreline. For this shot, I waded about 8 feet into the water to accomplish more light reflection on the surface of the lake. The sun is setting earlier as the summer fades, the forest is pitch black by 7:30pm. Hiked back to the car by headlamp, but that's what makes these location shoots fun. www.outflowphoto.com
