Every time I go back to the old neighborhood, I notice something out of place. This place was half my mind for so long that it's tough to adjust to the changes that have taken place in my absence.
It's much like someone broke into my house while I was on vacation and rearranged my closets, shelves, and furniture. The once familiar streets of my childhood have been redrawn with different lines and updated franchise logos. On summer vacation days, the Maselli's corner store offered a cool and dark refuge from the boredom. Shelves were lined with all forms of sugar and cheap-assed toys. The soda seemed impossibly cold as the bottles sweated large, plump droplets, just like that Mean Joe Green commercial. That store has been replaced by a wireless solutions dealer. Seems like while I was gone, someone stole the soul, and cloned my old neighborhood into the template of every other suburban nowhere. Sad really.
