Potential Energy

The summer is grinding to a halt. You can feel it more and more each day. I tend to do things with more urgency this time of year. The feeling that the warmth, light, and color are drawing to a close. Soon, trees will be line drawings and the color palette of the landscape will be shades of gray. I absolutely love this time of year but I hate to see the summer go.

New GraphiStudio Wedding Albums for 2011

John Bulmer Photography is proudly offering the gold standard in wedding album production, Italy's GraphiStudio.

"I am very excited to be working with GraphiStudio. Their products are legendary and there is little doubt you won't be blown away by what they can do. I have worked in the design field since 1993. While today I am a full time professional photographer, I still design professionally. In the last two decades, I have designed local and national print campaigns and collateral, websites, logos, and packaging. My skills allow for a totally unique and timeless album design that you will cherish for years. Wedding albums don't have to be all script, brushstrokes, and flowers. I can convey your personality without being cliche." -John Bulmer

From GraphiStudio's Website:
About the Wedding Book

The first Wedding Book was launched to the public in the spring of 1997. Wedding magazines described it as the best wedding momento that has ever been produced. Photographic publications referred to it as a revolution in this sector which also sets a new quality standard. The fame of the Wedding Book soon spread internationally and it was not long before Graphistudio received requests from other European countries as well as USA, Australia and Japan. The novel idea had a growing impact at the world wide level but it also needed to be protected through international patents. The Wedding Book was presented at international fairs including New York, Atlanta, Tokyo, Barcelona, Athens, Rome and Vienna. Photographers everywhere were impressed by the Graphistudio Wedding Book. In achieving this goal Graphistudio had been repaid for the first ten years of their product.

The Whiteface Circus

[Above] The Whiteface Observatory, Whiteface Mountain, Adirondacks, New York
Hiked Esther and Whiteface yesterday. Wasn't my finest Adirondack experience. While we never hike on the weekends, we were forced to yesterday. I now remember the vibe.

We made the unfortunate choice of picking the trail network that the race portion of the Three Peaks Challenge was on. For the entire day, we were accosted by race support staff and the constant radio chatter as they looked after 80 inconsiderate racers who were tearing up an already overused trail and throwing trash everywhere. I've done my share of adventure races, but I have never seen the circus from the perceptive of hiker trying to get out of the backcountry before dark. Today, the trail is devastated and all the participants are off tearing up another mountain. I would bet that not one cent of money raised is going to be reinvested into trail maintenance. I hope I am wrong.

Bombproof Designs: Camera Mounting Systems

While looking for something to mount my camera to the drops of a downhill rig, I couldn't find anything I liked or trusted. That was in 1999. Necessity required that I start building my own camera mounts. Each one is custom. Building one-off's allows for very specific applications in very specific environments. Nothing at Bombproof is mass produced. Each mount is produced for a very specific camera weight and use. I have shot in every possible weather condition, under every circumstance. I know what works and I don't trust my gear to poorly designed mounting systems. Contact me if you are looking to get your camera into some heavy conditions to capture a unique image. More to come at www.bombproofdesigns.com

Plinky: Road Trip

I'd love to drive from California, down through old Mexico, and into South America to Patagonia. I've read a few books about the drive. There are documentaries out there too. As a professional photographer, the potential for amazing documentary photography is amazing. I'd like to think it will happen someday.
