Micro Landscape: 3" Mountains

[Above] Micro Landscape Before and After.

This mountain sunset is only 3 inches high. The base image (lower panel) is an underwater GoPro capture of a wave breaking over shore rocks. The sunset is real, it's the setting sun broken through water

Lake Placid Barn HDR

[Above] Barn HDR
Lake Placid, New York

Everyone who drives into Lake Placid from the Northway passes this barn. I would bet 1 out of every 4 people take a photo. This is an overcooked black and white HDR. I overcooked it to show the texture in the sky and the sun burning through the clouds. This is an 8 image composite of images dark to light to achieve the tonal range.

Images from Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge

[Above] Images from Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, Keene Valley, Adirondack Park

Yesterday was an active weather day in the Keene Valley. As we climbed the exposed sections of Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge, separate weather cells could be seen moving through the valley below. I love being in the mountains in fog. The image of my friends Brent and John sitting on the summit ridge while looking off into the fog describes the feeling. The moisture in the air absorbs all sound and gives the impression of being afloat in some vast sea. Yesterday was everything I love about the mountains.

Tabletop Mountain : ADK

Tabletop was tough not because of the terrain, but because of our gear choices. We carried a full compliment of backcountry ice equipment and 70 meters of rope. We had originally planned on doing some self arrest training and ice practice, but the slow pace dictated by heavy packs, prevented anything but summiting and heading back. We were the last people off the Marcy trail. We hit the parking lot of the Loj in pitch darkness.
