Iceland is the size of Ohio, but it feels vast and wild. it The landscape is more like a playground for giants. Huge rock formations and creeping blue glaciers exist in the south with only a few roads to access them. And the farmhouses and hotels that do exist out there seem even smaller in the empty spaces. The nights are heavy with zero light pollution.
A week along the coast was an eduction. The weather there is stronger and faster than anything we had encountered before. Our third day was spent in a severe gale from which we had to take shelter in a hotel at the foot of the SvÃnafellsjökull Glacier. But our time on the glacier was worth any amount of travel or logistical challenge.
