Rooftop Solitude
[Above] Shooting the Albany Skyline : 06.14.2012
I love shooting the city at night from a rooftop vantage point. The muffled sounds of the streets below and the light wind make for a strange sort of solitude.

New Year's Day
[Above] New Year's Day, Downtown Troy, New York
Headed out into the falling snow tonight to get some camera time. Winter in New England is months of monochromatic light and soft box sun. Tonight was relatively warm at 36ยบ and I took the opportunity to shoot the city while everyone was still recovering from the holiday. I love allowing the white balance to produce the warm tones of street lighting. Happy New Year.

The Night Mission

[Above] Hedley Park Place, River Street, Troy, New York
I love Sunday nights for landscape photography. All the parking lots are empty and traffic is usually light. I shot this image from a small gate balcony on the Green Island Bridge. Winds were minimal and the moon was just right. I never realized how much vibration is transmitted through the bridge deck last night. It really put the vibration reduction lens to the test.

EMPAC with Beam
[Above] EMPAC with BeamTroy, New York
Troy is inhabited by one million crows. Standing on the rooftop deck of the 5th Avenue parking garage, the only evidence of their existence is the sound of hundreds wings creating lift. The black on black hides all detail, only their sound gives them away. Hundreds pass only a few feet above the rooftops. Bodega Bay was far more sinister at night. Hitchcock knew it.
In Chinese mythology, it is believed that the world once had 10 suns that were controlled by 10 crows. Crops were scorched and and rivers evaporated. To combat the crows' effect on their environment and quality of life, the Chinese sent in their greatest archer, Houyi, to shoot all but one of the birds. Well, they are back with a vengeance and most of them are living in Troy.

Late Night 8MM
Albany, New York
Fuji RVP 50
The last bus of the night moves by as the faces of strangers in the the windows flash like the frames of old 8mm movie film, their expressions frozen as the movement of the bus provides only a glimpse. Like one of those animations drawn on the edge of a pad, the windows draw distorted movement and the individual frames make no sense.
