Cycling Plus: Tour of the Battenkill

[Above] I don't shoot races as much as I attempt to capture the intensity and personality of the riders in a race. I'm excited to announce that Cycling Plus, the largest bike magazine in the UK, is running a series of my portraits and action shots* in a write-up of the Tour of the Battenkill in next month's issue.

Battenkill 2012

Just finished editing photos from The Tour of the Battenkill 2012.
The Battenkill is one of my favorite races to shoot. I spend a lot of time shooting weather images on the roads that host the race. It's always a pleasure to be able to insert cyclists in full pursuit into those landscapes.

Tour of Battenkill Stats

Tour of Battenkill photos are crazy popular. My Flickr account is at almost 8,000 hits with 30 minutes left to go in the recording day. The Rideline website is at about 5,000 hits and it's only 8pm.

Haunted Hills

[Above] The lonely climb up Juniper Swamp
2009 Tour of Battenkill
Cambridge, New York

I am haunted by hills. Places I used to spend between 20 and 40 hours a week climbing. They always had epic names: Snake Hill, Blue Factory, Deep Kill, Smith Hill, Greylock. Add Juniper Swamp to that list. The Juniper Swamp climb was featured in this years edition of the Tour of Battenkill. 18% of loose dirt and gravel. Great place to watch a professional cycling race.
